After Brok'tan's poem Kas and Kormak were given use of Melor's office in the government complex, their bodyguards were made to stay outside. There was a bowl on the table with writhing worms in it. Kas sighed inwardly he didn't really like Gagh and there was no polite way to refuse. Komak turned to his half-cousin with a bottle in his hand, "Brok'tan told me of your clan's peacemaking customs."
Kas nodded in respect. He watched Kormak open the bottle with the tip of his D'k tahg. He took a swig from the bottle and then offered the bottle to the Hybrid. "Accept my offering of peace and friendship."
Kas smiled slightly, the actual phrase began with 'please,' however he wouldn't test the Warrior's pride. He took the bottle and drank from it.
"I accept, my blood is at rest," Kas said with a bow. Kas suppressed a cough. He was surprised it wasn't Bloodwine, but Chech'tluth. From the taste it was a rare and valuable year. He exhaled slowly and sat down in front of the table. "It's been a long time since I've eaten Gagh."
The Hybrid scooped a handful of the worms and dropped them into his wide-open mouth. He chewed the Gagh and looked Kormak in the eye, if this was a test; he passed. Kormak nodded and began to eat the Gagh as well.
"Toq has never mentioned having a half-Bajoran son. I had no reason to believe you!" Kormak looked him in the eye. "Who are you, Kas!?"
"A genetic scan would have been a much simpler way to settle that," Kas said dryly, then took another swig from the bottle.
"Our fight was glorious! You are Klingon" Kormak said. "The blood of Toq runs in your veins!"
"You want to know who I am," Kas nodded. "I will tell you!"
"I was born forty years ago, the oldest son of Razka Nula and Toq, son of Nalath. On the Quath'Mar Vessel Yangteeze of the clan of Yo'uhee." Kas stated. "I have not seen Toq since he left my people when I was a small child to chase glorious battles! I guess he forgot about his bastard son! He took a mate and found his way back into Klingon Society. He's done well for himself and I learned to walk my own path. Brok'tan voyaged with my people till I was a teen. He taught me the ways of my father's people… Brok'tan was more of a father to me than Toq ever was."
"You are Toq's oldest son then," Kormak stated.
"It takes more than biology to be a family," Kas said. "The house of Toq are a bunch of strangers to me. I owe him nothing and I expect nothing from him."
"What about your child?" Kormak asked, looking the Hybrid in the eye. Kas maintained a stoic demeanor.
"One of my warriors said there was a child of mixed race with the short woman going into the clinic," Kormak stated. "I doubt there's another explanation."
"I don't owe anyone an explanation," Kas said, rising from his seat. "As I said Toq and his are strangers to me."
"I think Toq will want to know about his grandchild," Kormak said.
"He has shown no interest in life since I was a child," Kas said, raising his voice. "Where was Toq when it was time for my rite of ascension!? Where was during my first battle!? Where was Toq when I was sent away from my clan!? I will defend and be there for my children! That's more than I can say about Toq!"
"What should I tell Toq and your siblings?" Kormak asked.
"Tell them I walk my own path," Kas said. "I will continue to act honorably when I interact with Klingons, however, I have no need for them in my life."
Kormak said nothing for a moment, 'What was there to say?' He hadn't been able to contact Toq or his father Dorg. Now he wasn't sure what he'd say when he did…
There was a loud sound outside that caused both men to jump to their feet! They ran to see what had happened.
